May 4-10 in the BLA

Information via theloon.com MAY 04 – 10The Center, in partnership with Essentia Health, is hosting Today’s Women on Monday, May 4 from 3-6p.m. at The Center in Brainerd.This free event includes education, activities, knowledge sharing, and healthy appetizers. Join General Surgeon Ross Bengtson, MD, and Orthopedic Surgeon Amy Lelwica, MD, as they provide education on early warning signs, prevention, non-surgical and surgical treatment options and the most current technology to maintain vein and joint health at any age.m For more information about this free event for all generations and to register call The Center at (218) 829-9345.

Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot will have a fundraiser at Pizza Ranch in Baxter on Mon., May 4 from 5-8pm.  Pizza Ranch will donate 10% of their sales during this time and freewill donations (tips) will also be accepted.
Individuals who are grieving the death of a loved one are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Grief Support Group. This supportive and caring group is facilitated by professionals and meets Mondays from 3-5 p.m. May 4 through June 15 at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Author Laura Hansen will be offering a workshop on the practice of free writing at The Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd on Tue., May 5th from 6-8pm. Students will spend an evening learning how to get started free writing. They will learn how to shut off the noisy editor in their head and write intensively and intuitively. The class is appropriate for writers of any level of experience and genre. Whether you’ve just begun to write down some memories, family history, stories, or inspirational thoughts, free writing is a great tool for anyone who wants to explore the act of writing.  Laura has self-published two poetry chapbooks and has been published in numerous regional literary journals and magazines including Lake Country JournalMinnesota Moments, and ArtWord Quarterly. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot will have a rummage sale on Thu., & Fri., May 7 and 8.  Thursday hours from 2-6pm and Friday from 8-5pm.  Proceeds will go to missions.

The Pillager Lions 
will have their Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Fri., May 8 starting at 5pm at the Community Center in Pillager.  All you can eat for $6.

The Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Festival will be held on Sat., May 9th from 9:30-4pm at the Brainerd High School.  Over 150 exhibitors, free admission.  Use North & South doors.

The Wild & Free garage sale will be held at the Garrison VFW on Fri & Sat., May 8 & 9.  Friday hours 12-8pm and Saturday from 8-2pm. Donations welcome.  There is no need for clothes, TVs or computers.  All donations are tax deductible and can be dropped off a the Garrison Animal Hospital.  Questions? Call 320.692.4180.

For the first time you have an opportunity to sell or donate your extra or gently used sports equipment, fishing/hunting (except guns) equipment, bikes, roller blades, and camping gear. The Sports Exchange will take place at Camp Vanasek (on Whipple Lake) in Baxter on Sat., May 9th.  Bring your sports equipment to the camp beginning at 7:00 am to 9:00 am - price it - we help sell it- you receive the asking price less 10%.  You may also donate your gently used equipment for the benefit of Camp Vanasek.  Items can be delivered to Camp or Brainerd Community Action.  If you have questions, please call Brainerd Community Action - 218-829-5278. The Sports Exchange is a benefit for Camp Vanasek, your local youth camp, a non-profit 501C3 corporation.
